Privacy policy

Wombat Words is a reading and handwriting app for primary school children. It is made by Fiume Systems Pty Ltd ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app and this website handle, where it is kept, and the choices you have. We have written it for parents and carers, because a grown-up sets the app up for their child.

1. Laws we follow

We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Where families outside Australia use the app, we also aim to meet the privacy laws that apply to them, including the United States Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and, for families in the UK and EU, the GDPR. Wombat Words is designed to meet the rules for Apple's Kids category.

2. What the app keeps, and where

All of the information below is saved in the app's own storage on your iPhone or iPad. We do not run a server for the app, and we never receive this information.

What the app does not collect

3. How the app uses information

None of this information is used for advertising or marketing, and none of it is used to train artificial intelligence models.

4. How the stories are made

The stories in Wombat Words are written in advance and built into the app. Some were drafted with the help of AI writing tools, then checked against reading-level and content rules before being added. The app itself does not connect to any AI service, and no information about your child is ever sent to one.

5. Who information is shared with

The app does not share your child's information with us or anyone else. The only times information leaves the app are when you choose it:

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.

6. Keeping information safe

Your child's information is protected by your device's own security, such as its passcode and encryption. Inside the app, the progress report, settings and printing sit behind a grown-up check (a times-table question), so children can't change settings or remove a child's history. Please keep your device locked with a passcode, especially if it is shared.

7. How long it is kept

Information stays on your device until you remove it. Removing a child in the app's Setup screen deletes that child's details and history straight away. Deleting the Wombat Words app deletes everything it saved; copies may remain in your device backups until those backups are replaced or deleted.

8. Your choices

Because we never receive your family's information, we can't look it up, send you a copy or delete it for you. You stay in control of it on your device.

9. For parents and carers

A grown-up sets up Wombat Words and adds each child. By adding a child, you confirm that you are their parent or legal guardian, or have their parent's permission. The app does not link to websites outside the app, show ads or ask children for personal information.

10. App Store ratings

Occasionally, and only in the grown-ups' area, the app may ask Apple to show its standard "rate this app" prompt. Apple decides whether it appears. Any rating or review you give goes to Apple, not to us.

11. This website

This website does not use cookies, advertising or analytics. Our web host may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and pages visited, for security and to keep the site running. If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you, and we delete them when they are no longer needed.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information, for example if a future version stores anything outside your device, we will update this policy, tell you in the app before the change takes effect, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

13. Contact and complaints

Questions or concerns about privacy? Email hello@wombatwords.app. We will reply within 30 days.

If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
